About Psychology Hero! William Glasser

When I think about a hero of mine in Psychology, I would be crazy not to mention one of my all-time heroes on About Psychology. He is none other than the great William Glasser.

If you are not familiar with his work, you owe it to yourself to go pick up one of his many books. If you like someone who bucks the system, then look no further. Glasser is the man! His basic philosophy is that everyone does everything for a reason. The reason is that they are trying to get one of their 5 basic needs met. The most important of these needs and the hardest need to get met is love. When we do not get our need for love met, we turn to one of our other needs to numb us from the pain of not getting our needs for love met. Ultimately then, all mental health issues have a lack of love as a root of the problem. Pretty powerful stuff when you think about it! Really goes well with Sue Johnson's attachment theory. Just had to mention him here on about psychology!
